OVERVIEW Half-saiyan, half-human, Trunks is the son of Bulma and Vegeta with a carefree and curious nature that also leads to him being a mischievous thing at times. The reigning champion of the Junior Division for the World Martial Arts Tournament, he packs a mighty punch despite his young age and is never one to back down from a fight. PERSONALITY Half-Saiyan. Half-Human. Trunks is the son of Vegeta and Bulma and partner in crime/best friend to Goten. Unlike his future/alternate timeline self, he does not come from an apocalyptic world and so his personality differs a bit from that version of himself. That's not to say that he hasn't had his fair share of battles or grim moments but for the most part, he's a rather spoiled and at times curious/mischievous but caring kid, usually dragging Goten into whatever plan he's cooked up. So, with that being said, what exactly is it that makes Trunks... Trunks? First off, he's had it pretty darn easy compared to his future/alternate timeline self when it comes to living. Where his future counterpart might be more humble and quiet due to the sort of apocalyptic world he's been brought up in and thus, hasn't had anywhere near what his younger counterpart has had, Trunks here is, well, a touch spoiled. When you add the fact that he's the only child of Vegeta and Bulma and comes from a wealthy family well, you can bet he pretty much gets whatever he wants, be it from his mother or grandparents. Vegeta? Well, he's a bit of a tough sell there but don't let that fool you, because Trunks has his ways of getting whatever he wants. Which? Totally includes guilt tripping Vegeta into taking him to the park when he punches him in the face during a sparring match and upsets Trunks because you didn't say you'd hit me back, dad! Sniffle sniffle. Totally worked though. Getting whatever he wants also extends to getting Goten to go along with his many mischievous ideas that, even if Goten starts off being unsure about, Trunks can always convince his best friend to tag along with him... and take the heat with him should it all go south. Which has happened maybe once... or twice... or a few times. But, hey, what are best friends for, right? So, this sort of leads us into how he can be, how do we say this... a touch bossy? Just a little, like his mother. But, hey! What you call bossy, he calls knowing exactly what he wants and not being afraid to speak up about it. He's just, you know, direct. That includes calling you out on something absolutely stupid, be it your behavior or some dumb idea you have. He's not afraid to speak his mind but of course, with not being afraid to do that? There's a good chance he can sometimes maybe say the wrong thing that could hurt someone's feelings since wow, he totally didn't mean it to come off as harsh as it did? Sorry, Gohan, he just doesn't like that Great Saiyaman costume of yours, you look ridiculous. But! He's pretty quick-witted and even smooth for his age when it comes to talking himself out of a situation or trying to make it up to someone else. This usually happens with Goten when he says something that might upset his best friend but, Trunks being Trunks and his best friend, he knows exactly what to say to make it up to him... including letting Goten pick whatever toy of his he wants since, sorry, didn't mean to hurt your feelings, buddy. But what usually tags along with bossy? Starts with a c... Competitive? Well, Saiyans are that by nature and Trunks is no exception to that. But something else. Oh, yeah, cocky and that is definitely something that Trunks can be, especially when it comes to fighting. A trait he more than likely gets from his father, Trunks can have absolutely no respect whatsoever for anyone he deems unworthy or doesn't care for, be it within battle or not. This sort of happened with Goku in the beginning where Trunks thought he was nothing more than a goofball compared to his father and how can this guy be so strong? But, that all changed later on after he saw his strength and skill and so Goku more or less "proved himself" to Trunks without even realizing he had to. Still, if he doesn't like you? There's a chance he'll let you know it with some rude remark or else you'll just get ignored by him because, yeah, so not worth his time. He's the son of a Saiyan Prince, you know? He's also the son of a genius No, not Vegeta. Bulma! and because of that, Trunks is also a little bit of a smarty pants. Now, he's by no means as talented or as smart as his mother or even grandfather but he has an interest and love for technology all the same. While he's not about to build a time machine and go cruising through time to save the past or anything like that, Trunks is able to read situations very quickly, has a handle on how to use a lot of different Capsule Corporation products, and is known to have quite a few "bright ideas" of his own... which may end up getting him into trouble at times but hey, let's see you come up with some quick ideas on the spot, ok? So let's see here: spoiled, bossy, cocky... sounds like a brat, right? Well, to be fair, he is only 8 years old, the son of a genius who owns Capsule Corporation and a Saiyan Prince with so much pride that his picture is beside PRIDE on the Seven Deadly Sins calling card. But, no. He's not just a brat, promise. Because despite his being rather flippant with just about anyone and everything, Trunks cares a lot for his family, friends, and even those who can't defend themselves. His mother and father are especially important to him and he's not against ignoring either of their words when it comes to helping them, often coming to his father's aid despite his insistence that he doesn't need any help. Which, speaking of Vegeta, Trunks has a tremendous amount of respect and adoration for his father. As far as Trunks is concerned, his father is the strongest ever sorry, Goku and as the Prince of Saiyans, this only validates it all in his head. Even if Vegeta has the tendency to scare the absolute crap out of him should he misbehave or just get on Vegeta's nerves, Trunks looks to him as his hero and is never one to talk down about his father around others, always making sure they know how great and strong he is and how he hopes to be just as strong (or stronger) as him some day. But, ok. Even for an eight year old half-Saiyan, he has to have a weakness or two, right? Well, yeah. You see, thanks to his father's Saiyan genes and all, Trunks is a lot stronger than pretty much every other kid on the planet. That makes him confident, yes, but also cocky, like earlier mentioned. Because of that overconfidence in himself, Trunks has a tendency to not take things very seriously... especially when he really should. This can land him in hot water at times or have others want to scream at him for being so reckless such as with him and Goten just playing around with a sleeping Majin Buu and Piccolo about to lose his mind on the two half-Saiyans since are you crazy why are you bothering him this is our chance get back here right now! Vegeta pretty much says it best with describing the "legendary Super Saiyan transformation" having been reduced to a child's play thing when it comes to Trunks and Goten. Because, well, when you're that young and have all that power? Of course you're going to think nothing can hurt you. But, as they sometimes find out, that's the wrong line of thinking and doesn't make you a great fighter. There's also the fact that he's, you know, an eight year old and while he's had his fair share of beating up bad guys and the like, he still lacks a whole lot of life experience in general. While he's definitely not a kid you could easily pull a fast one on (thanks for the brains, mom!), there are certain things he just doesn't understand or get and depending on the situation, it can leave him vulnerable or in the dark. Typically, this isn't really anything super serious and is more along the lines of teasing Gohan for having a girlfriend or something because why would you ever? Jeez. At the end of the day, Trunks is a good kid with his heart in the right place. He just sometimes, you know, acts like a mischievous eight year old and having Goten along for the ride doesn't make it any easier to avoid. He loves his family, will defend those who can't defend themselves, and is prideful in his Saiyan heritage... though not as much as his father, thankfully. He's not afraid to jump into battle, is willing to give everything his all, and will sleep like a baby the second his head hits the pillow. Seriously. Good luck waking him up. ABILITIES FLIGHT Trunks has basically been flying all his life which is just second nature to him. COMBAT As Vegeta says: if you're old enough to walk, you're old enough to train. Trunks is very skilled in hand-to-hand combat and fighting all around thanks to extensive training from his father. ENHANCED SPEED/REFLEXES Being half-Saiyan, Trunks is much much faster than the average human and that includes his reflexes which miiiight be a bit quicker than Goten's. ENDURANCE & STRENGTH Still being half-Saiyan, Trunks is much much stronger than the average human and is able to take quite a beating be it from physical or energy attacks. While not stronger than Gohan, he's stronger than Goten and displayed this with beating him in the World Martial Arts Tournament. Sorry, Goten. SUPER SAIYAN/SSJ Just like Gohan and Goten, Trunks is able to transform into a Super Saiyan which serves as a powerup for strength, speed, and endurance. Comes with the spiky golden hair, shiny green eyes, and flaring golden ki after lots of yelling that will probably take 5 episodes to get through. KI/ENERGY SENSING & MANIPULATION Basically, energy attacks. Energy beams, balls of energy, explosions of energy, just... ENERGY. While Trunks knows more of his father's signature moves he does know the Kamehameha but, you know, dad's moves are cooler and all. Trunks is also able to sense the ki/energy of other beings so long as you have a life force he's able to tap into or is familiar with. If he knows you/your energy, he'll obviously be able to tell it's you. He's not able to, however, tell if someone is "good" or "bad" based on their energy alone. FUSION His super cool trick with Goten where, by doing the fusion dance, they fuse to become one which is GOTENKS! A combined form of both their personalities and strengths, you honestly don't want to deal with this kid because if you thought Trunks was a brat, Gotenks is even worse.
